Limited Edition: Mandheling, Sumatra (Indonesia)
We’ve recently started working with a new cafe here in Apollo Bay, Coco Cafe & Restaurant, and it’s a delight!
They have a gorgeous venue upstairs overlooking the bay, with a menu pairing French and Balinese — mirroring birthplace of the two owners, Gaby and Jenny. For them, we have created a signature Indonesian coffee you can drink everyday there, and it’s working fantastically with the menu.
Gaby and Jenny had two requirements for the kind of coffee they wanted:
Gaby, following his French sensibilities, wanted it to be a dark roast, and
Jenny, who had grown up with her mother buying green beans from a nearby farm and roasting coffee at home for the family, wanted Indonesian coffee.
We sourced Grade 1 Mandheling coffee beans from Sumatra, Indonesia, which we then roasted quite dark. Grade 1 equals to ‘Specialty-Grade’ coffee beans and represents the highest quality with the lowest defects.
Given the fantastic response Coco has had from customers, we thought for a limited time only (until 9th April), we should share this with people at home. It’s a bold and syrupy coffee with a body reminiscent of raisins and stewed fruits. If you like a rich, heavy and slightly spicy espresso, this may well be for you.
Sourced from old-growth Sumatran plantings, this coffee is carefully managed and selected from a very small growing region, resulting in a refined flavour and consistent product year out. The coffee is also sourced from producers actively involved in projects that ensure fair trading practices with the farmers and sustainable environmental management.
