The Midnight Cask | Whisky Aged Single Origin Coffee

$25.00
GrindWhole Bean

Express postage available

Zero alcohol

Limited run

Whisky-aged single origin, zero alcohol.

Beans rested in pre-used whisky oak. Rich aromatics of vanilla, dried fruit and oak over chocolate and caramel sweetness.

Why you’ll love it

  • Aromas of oak, vanilla and raisin

  • Chocolate and caramel sweetness with a gentle dried-fruit finish

  • Smooth in milk, layered and aromatic as black

How it’s made
We rest green coffee in empty whisky barrels so the oak and residual vapours infuse the beans. No liquid is added, no flavouring oils, just time and wood. After resting, we roast to highlight sweetness and balance. You get the whisky-cask aroma with none of the alcohol.

Brew tips

  • Espresso: 18 g in, 36–40 g out, 27–32 s

  • Filter: 1:16 ratio, medium grind, total brew 2:45–3:15

  • Plunger: 1:15 ratio, coarse grind, 4 minutes, gentle plunge.

Freshness
We roast fresh coffee every day and your bag always has the roast date printed.

Storage
Keep the bag sealed and in a cool, dry place. Avoid the fridge or freezer once opened.

I don't have a grinder. What setting do I choose when buying your coffee? Let's step you through the options to help you find the perfect choice.

Espresso

This will be best for most domestic espresso machines.

Stove-top

Suits a traditional moka pot style brewer.

Aeropress

Great for those devices or similar from other manufacturers.

Filter

A little coarser now, good for most styles of pour-over brewing.

Plunger

This is our coarsest setting. For a slower brewed, smooth french-press.

FAQ

Is there any alcohol in the coffee?

No. The beans rest in empty barrels, so you get the aroma without alcohol.

Does it taste like “flavoured” coffee?

No syrups or oils are used. Expect oak, vanilla and dried-fruit aromatics layered over a classic chocolate sweetness.

What brew methods suit it best?

It shines as espresso and in milk, and makes a beautifully fragrant filter brew.

Will it affect my grinder’s flavour?

Aromatics can linger briefly. If that worries you, purge a small dose of your regular beans after grinding.

This is an incredible product. On the pricey side, but worth every penny. I can't wait to purchase the next bag. Highly recommend all coffee drinkers whom appreciate a cheeky whiskey drop, to buy this amazing coffee.

Not a bad coffee. Not as sweet and creamy as I normally like it. Might try the bourbon version next time.

I sampled this whisky-infused coffee at a friend's place and was immediately hooked. I'm not a coffee purist; I like trying new tastes. Some combinations don't work for me (sour fruit-flavoured beer). This one does. I thought it wouldn't be an every-day coffee but the whisky aroma is subtle and it mixes well with regular or almond milk so I find myself drinking it often. Minuses: It's not your Coles low-cost bean. I'd like a half-price 1kg option. Pluses: It impresses visitors. It's packed and sealed well. The aroma is distinct but subtle. It doesn't get me drunk. Simply mentioning this product got a stranger excited and asking for a link so I think the concept is a winner and there's opportunity for targeted, fun marketing.
